Peter Tessier: Stewing over Trouba and more... No news of any sort other than a new assistant coach means time to talk Trouba.

Wish they'd just give him what he wants. Pair him with Buff, make sure he gets PP time and sign him to 8 years by 5.5 to 6 million per.

Pete, no mention of Price in your Top 5 goalies list? Prepare for Habfanaggedon.

You can't just give him what he wants.
Then do you give Ehlers what he wants in 2 years?
Laine in 3?

There is a process. I think based on the contracts of Reilly, Dumba, Maata etc the range has been set. If you want 8 years then maybe you give him a little more as you eat up a bit more of his UFA years. However you can't just give him a blank check.

the guy should get the market value, which has been set for this kind of player. failing that... trade him for fair value coming back and make him someone else's problem to deal with if he thinks he's worth so much more.

I screwed up- I used last seasons stats based on mins and shots so Price being injured messed it up- out of sight out of mind.

I owned it in comments.

He does NOT want to play the left side and is done with Mark Stuart (so am I)... you cannot blame him for wanting to be at his best, fullfill his potential.

I think for 3 years being on the bottom pairing , with Stuart and minimal PP time he has been very good....under those circumstances. Problem is will he be a Zach Bogosian over time , or somewhere in the upper echelon.

Try for 7 years $42 million, do not give him any NO Trade clauses...short of that he will not play bottom pairing again. I just think he and his camp are done with that, and I really can't blame him.

Honestly, dumbest move the Jets made was resigning Buff at almost 8 million when he's 30 years old. Could have moved him for a young LD prospect + and went forward with Trouba and Myers on the right side.

In 2-3 years that's a bad contract and probably before the Jets can realistically make a cup run

If Trouba was paired with Byfuglien (as a lefty) or Enstrom from day 1, this wouldn't be a discussion. Just pay him. But Stuart has dragged him and his numbers down, and I'd be hesitant to go $5 million long term. I'd give him Ryan Murray's deal before Seth Jones'. If he's waiting to see what Lindholm gets (6.5-7 million), he's gonna have a bad time.

Painful to read your comment. He stated he was to to be paired with Buff or Myers, and while he doesn't prefer left side he will play it. The 600+ minutes Buff and Trouba were paired together this past season they were an elite pairing. The Jets would be stupid not to continue that. I am happy trouba is asking for this, it's sickening watching his talents wasted dragging around a cargo ship anchor.

Stu needs to go.

maybe the jets should entertain the idea of trading one of their right dmen . i would move Myers for a good left d man . then Trouba could play the right side in the top four .

So this plays out ... understandably ... we'd all be speaking up if we had to play with Stu ... and, no, we don't trade away Myers - solid player, great contract

Tough part for management & coaches is committing to D pairings and minutes as part of contract negotiations - how do you do that ? ... management wants to manage the parts and coaches want to manage the games ... i honestly don't know how you commit to this ... what if the injury bug hits again - what then ?

Tough one but I understand why Troubs wants some change ... this one may drag out till a few strokes before midnight !

So glad that Jets are not in the Vesey sweepstakes.
